BMOP returns to its home concert venue, Jordan Hall, with an evening of works by the seminal American composer Ellen Taaffe Zwilich. Featuring three of her latest works, the Ellen Taaffe Zwilich Portrait Concert also reunites BMOP's partnership with the New England Conservatory, where Zwilich will be composer-in-residence that week. Zwilich's Commedia dell'Arte for flute and string orchestra and Concerto Elegia for violin and string orchestra will both feature longtime members of the BMOP orchestra as soloists, while her Symphony No. 5 will conclude the evening. The 2020 BMOP-NEC composition competition winner, Lavell Blackwell, will have his Effleurage premiered by BMOP to open the concert, after its scheduled March 2020 performance was cancelled due to the coronavirus pandemic.
As BMOP kicks off its extended 2022-2023 Quarter-Century Celebration season, this return to historic Jordan Hall and portrait concert of an icon of American symphonic composition is not one to be missed.
