BMOP/sound, the nation's foremost label launched by an orchestra and committed exclusively to producing new music recordings, leads the classical categories with three nominations for the 53rd annual Grammy Awards. Announced on December 1, 2010 by The Recording Academy, BMOP/sound's release Steven Mackey: Dreamhouse is the recipient in all three categories: "Best Classical Album," "Best Orchestral Performance," and "Best Engineered Classical Album." These nominations bring the Boston-based record label's Grammy nods to a total of five in just three years.
"It is such an honor to have a recording receive one nomination, let alone three," says Gil Rose, BMOP/sound's Executive Producer. "This is a great success for BMOP/sound, Steve Mackey, David Frost, and all the other engineers and artists who have played a role in this amazing project." Steven Mackey: Dreamhouse is BMOP/sound's nineteenth recording, released this fall of 2010. Composed in 2003, it is an epic work by an American iconoclast pioneering the new music scene today. This BMOP/sound release marks the world premiere recording of Dreamhouse, following its two live performances: the world premiere conducted by Gil Rose and featuring Rinde Eckert, Synergy Vocals, Catch Electric Guitar Quartet, and the Netherlands Radio Symphony, at the 2003 Holland Festival in Amsterdam; and the 2007 North American premiere in Boston featuring the Boston Modern Orchestra Project, Eckert, Synergy, and Catch, under Gil Rose's direction.
